Kinokuniya Bookstore was founded in Japan in 1927.  Kinokuniya believes it should not only operate as a bookstore, but also as a center for the promotion of arts and culture.

After becoming nationwide, Kinokuniya opened its first overseas store in San Francisco, CA in 1969.

Today, Kinokuniya has eight branches across the U.S. offering a large range of books in English and Japanese, as well as CDs, DVDs, and high quality stationery.

In addition to bookstores, Kinokuniya also operates sales offices which provide services to business and academic institutions.
